Focusing on students' future

At the center of every issue dealt with or action initiated by a board of education is the preparation of our children for the world that awaits them. Our economy is transforming into a more global entity with new challenges and new opportunities. I believe that my experience as an engineer in the semiconductor industry, having experienced this economic transformation, gives me a very unique and valuable perspective that would be beneficial to the Board of Education and our students.

Upholding high standards
We need to hold our students to the highest standards, and make certain that those standards are met before students are allowed to progress. Our children must be proficient in their skills if they are going to be problem solvers, innovators, creative thinkers, and successfully compete in the global economy.

Encouraging innovation
New challenges require new ideas, and the Board of Education must encourage an environment where innovation can occur, innovation like the standards-based assessment that several of our middle schools in PSD are implementing this year.

Ensuring Educational Options
One of the most important choices parents can make for their children is how best to provide for their education. We are very fortunate for the opportunities that the Poudre School District offers, be it our neighborhood schools, school of choice, charter schools, the International Baccalaureate program, Core-Knowledge curriculum, and others. The district must make certain that each of these choices remains available and provides high quality opportunities for all children.

Increasing Transparency
Everyone in the community has a stake in our children’s education: Parents, teachers, local businesses, and taxpayers. Every opportunity should be made for these stakeholders to have input and see how their tax money is being used. Transparency goes far beyond principles of community oversight. It can be a tool to build trust between those underwriting our children’s education, and those providing it so that the focus can be kept where it belongs: Providing the best and most relevant education for our children.

Join me
Please check back often, as I will be updating this website with the latest information regarding the election. I look forward to talking with you about creating the best and most relevant educational opportunities for our children. I would be honored to have your vote this November for the Poudre School District Board of Education.
